Auckland, New Zealand In the City of Sails, it was heavenly nice and comfy to drive along the bay side. It's the world of sea, sand, and serenity. One thing I did not like about this city is that there were too many steep roads all over the place. You may definitely want to get a car wherever you head for in this town. |

Muriwai Beach, Auckland At Muriwai Beach, about a 30-minute drive from Auckland, I met a huge flock of gannets and boobies sitting on the cliff ledge, reminded me of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. In a way, I even felt a bit sorry for being here and being a human being. It was such a windy day that clouds were moving so fast. Went down to the seashore. Interesting – it did not feel like sands, or rather felt like black rubber. I could see myself in it. |

Rotorua,
New Zealand There are still plenty of hot springs and boiling and bubbling mud pits with a scent of sulfur in the air. I really did find myself somewhere quite different in this area. Also, I visited the Maori Cultural Center at Whakarewarewa. The Maori were the first people to settle on New Zealand. Here I found traditional wooded Maori dolls and a small Maori kid took me by surprise with a protruding tongue. I later found out that the Maori men stick out their tongues ritually to intimidate enemies away from the old days. It was rather funny for me to see a cute little boy with his tongue stuck out at a souvenir shop, though. Anyway, it was good to learn about the Maori way of life in New Zealand. |
