Odyssey in Poland & Fryderyk Chopin
Chicago

I headed south to the park outside the city by tram. This park was very lovely with a beautiful pond in the middle. Even lovelier was the statue of Fryderyk Chopin. It was distinctly different from the Chopin statue in Warsaw's Lazienki Park.
He performed a concert in Wrocław on November 9, 1830. Chopin looking down at me!

Wrocław is the city of dwarfs. I found cute dwarfs and unique dwarfs here and there. The following are dwarfs I bumped into as I was walking the streets of Wrocław.

Krasnal Pierożnik
The Gourmet Dwarf was the first dwarf I ran across. He was eating pierogi in front of a restaurant.
Syzyfek Pchający Kulę i Syzyfek Podnoszący Kulę
I then met a couple; one was pushing a ball and the other was holding it. Interesting!

Krasnal Dryndek
I barely noticed him ringing on the second level of a building in the Market Square.
  Krasnal Więziennik
Oh poor dwarf! What did you do? He had been fettered as a prisoner.

Krasnal Zdrowik
I saw him hiking. Where to?
  Krasnal Gazeciarz
This newspaper boy handed me a newspaper at a kiosk. Dziękuję!

Krasnal Śpioch
Was he tired? He found him sleeping leaning against a stone.

  Krasnal Rzeźnik
He might be a butcher. He had a kitchen knife in his hand.

Krasnal WrocLovek
He was the smallest of all dwarfs I found, but I perceived him having the strongest and most endearing heart in all his fellow dwarfs.

Głuchak, Ślepak i 'W-skers
As I first saw them, I thought they were just playing together. But I took a closer look, I found them to be the disabled; deaf, blind, and a wheeled walker. They support each other and cooperate closely to guard the city. These guys moved me almost to tears.

Well, now this concludes my Christmastime in Krakow and Wrocław. It was cold, but I enjoyed every moment of my stay in this pious Catholic country. I farewelled Tumski and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist that reflected the red sunset which mirrored over the Odra, until next time.

2010 marks the bicentennial of the birth of Fryderyk Chopin, and is the year of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition!
