With a map of Leipzig, I started walking, heading for Schumann Haus where Robert Schumann lived with Clara Wieck.

On my way toward Schumann Haus, I passed the Universität Leipzig, Leipzig University at which Robert Schumann studied law against his will (not music) under the strong pressure from his mother.

It opened in 1409 and is the second oldest university in Germany, but this unique and futuristic architecture is the main building of the university, founded in 2012.

Other notable alumni include Goethe, Nietzsche, C.P.E. Bach, the second son of J.S. Bach, Ogai Mori, and current Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel.

In front of Leipzig University, I found a small bronze model of the original form of the Paulinerkirche that was built in 1231 which has later become the
Universitätskirche St. Pauli, St. Paul's University Church, and it continues being used by the Leipzig University students to this day.

I found the university building, built in 2012, futuristic, and yet, it looked reminiscent of the Paulinerkirche to me. It must be a deliberate design for them to build it that way, commemorating the former St. Paul's University Church.

At my home as a child, there was a Deutsche Grammophon record album with a yellow label, recorded by Gewandhaus Orchestra. I don't remember which piece of music that was on, but I clearly remember it was by Gewandhaus Orchestra.

The word, Gewandhaus, has always sounded like a term that somehow made me feel uptight, serious, no-nonsense, overwhelmed, and of course, very German.

Here I was, standing right in front of the Gewandhaus, the home of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. The first concert hall was built in 1781. The current concert hall is the third one that opened in 1981, celebrating its 200th anniversary.

The Mendebrunnen, the Mende Fountain, named after its bequeather, Pauline Mende, sits right before the Gewandhaus.

The beautiful blue sky was reflecting on the wall glass of the university.

Compared to the Market Square, the Augustusplatz, I found, was to be a livelier and more fun place with more people - the university students, families and kids, enjoying their day, surrounded by such cultural and historical architectures as the Gewandhaus, the Opera House, the university, the museum, and the fountain.
