The Palazzo Vecchio is the town hall of Firenze, but is used as a museum at present. Having been to such Tuscan towns as Siena and Montepulciano, I got to be familiar with its architectural design. The Palazzo overlooks the Piazza della Signoria, the main square of Firenze. |

I've never read any work of Dante, but since I heard Franz Liszt's Après une Lecture du Dante: Fantasia quasi Sonata when I was in early 20's, I've been interested in this great Italian poet. Dante Alighieri was born here in 1265. This is the Museo Casa di Dante, his house and museum. | Firenze is where he spent most of his life composing masterpieces including the Divine Comedy. A large banner is suspended from a façade. |
And a bronze bust of Dante is mounted on the wall. |
I found a placard on the wall. I didn't understand what it meant, but the river "ARNO" was in it, so I could imagine that it was a paragraph excerpted from one of his works. As I returned to Japan, I looked into it. It says:
I can tell Dante loved this enchanting city and was proud of it. |
