The Palazzo Vecchio is the town hall of Firenze, but is used as a museum at present. Having been to such Tuscan towns as Siena and Montepulciano, I got to be familiar with its architectural design. The Palazzo overlooks the Piazza della Signoria, the main square of Firenze.

A replica of Michelangelo's David statue stands at the entrance of the Palazzo Vecchio. There are 3 statues of David in Firenze. This is the second David I met.

I've never read any work of Dante, but since I heard Franz Liszt's Après une Lecture du Dante: Fantasia quasi Sonata when I was in early 20's, I've been interested in this great Italian poet. Dante Alighieri was born here in 1265. This is the Museo Casa di Dante, his house and museum.

Firenze is where he spent most of his life composing masterpieces including the Divine Comedy.

A large banner is suspended from a façade.

And a bronze bust of Dante is mounted on the wall.

I found a placard on the wall. I didn't understand what it meant, but the river "ARNO" was in it, so I could imagine that it was a paragraph excerpted from one of his works.

As I returned to Japan, I looked into it. It says:

Where the lovely Arno flows, there I was born and raised, in the great city. (94-95)

I can tell Dante loved this enchanting city and was proud of it.
